Old Fashioned Fried Pies...

One of the fondest memories of my grandmother has to be her making fried pies for us as kids...I miss her so much... I had to make something for church today, so fried pies it was... Gather all the ingredients. Note I did not have buttermilk, so I used the milk and vinegar trick...WOW, I'll probably not buy buttermilk again. If you've not done this, you MUST try it. 1 cup milk plus 1 teaspoon or so of white vinegar = buttermilk. 3 Cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup shortening 1 egg 1 cup buttermilk 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon vanilla 1 cup sugar Using a pastry cutter, or knife, cut in the shortening. Add the wet ingredients. Once the ingredients are together, place the dough in a ziplock and in the frig for a good hour... While the dough is in the frig, get your fillings together. My grandmother used to make an old fashioned chocolate fried pie as well as one that had a chocolate pudding type filling. Today, I went with the old fashioned

My Valentine's Gift...Wooden Lighted Wall Cross

I've been waiting on this day for several months now...at our last church there was beautiful cross that was backlit in the baptistry. I wanted one for our home and told my hubbs that it would be wonderful to have finished for Valentine's Day... Que the hubbs and the old barn wood I mentioned in a previous post... I've been looking at this blank wall since we moved in... My Hershey was helping take photos...he's such a good boy... Side bar...some of you have asked about the lights over my dining room table. They're IKEA...they come in a flat box and you put them together like a puzzle... I've said it, and I'll say it again...I can't wait for IKEA Nashville...it needs to happen! Back to my project... Cheap pads for your steamer mop...

You surely have old beach towels in the closet you don't use anymore... I love my Swiffer and my Shark Steamer mop, except when I have to get new pads for them... Today, I think to myself...self there has to be a cheaper way! I decided to cut up pieces from an old beach towel... I was cleaning my sunporch, so i didn't plan to keep the towel pieces... I cut the pieces larger than the base of my Shark... The reason I made them larger was so I could secure them...If you notice on one side I used a simple paperclip and the other side one of those black paper clasps. Using these makes it simple to take it off and toss once your done. Of course you could take the towel strips and wash them if you like, or just toss them!
